My biggest little boy is 5! I had hoped to finish his dog quilt, but with weddings, overnight guests, renovations, birthday parties etc etc, I just couldn't get to it. We had previously had a conversation about Mummy wanting to make him something and him wanting something shop bought. I told him Mummy had no money and he suggested I try and find some LOL. Then a few days later he comes to me and says "you can make me something or you can buy me something, but just get me something" LOL
Then last week we were driving back from swimming and he asks me for a 'little blanket for my baby cat'. I can do that! I had made a hoo-hah about wanting to make him something surely I can make a toy cat a blanket in a few days?
I sewed together some orphan scrapbuster blocks. Basted it, quilted it, bound it, wrapped it and all just in time for the big day...
And as I yet again had tension issues with my machine while quilting this mini quilt, I am pleased I didn't tackle his single bed quilt!! Looks like I may have to bite the bullet and get my machine serviced. I have tried new needles, adjusting the bobbin tension, adjusting the needle tension, changing the thread, cleaning the bottom of my machine... Any tips for tension problems???

I love your story,- the boy, his cat and the cute blanket!! Sorry, no tips for machine tension problems, machine service seems to be the best solution!
I wish I did! I don't machine quilt because I've never been able to get the tension to cooperate.
A thoughtful boy who knew his friend needs a quilt too. Did you drop your feed dogs for free motion quilting? I don't change the tension for this type of quilting.
what a great little quilt, and you did it in time. Nothing like pressure, that works for me too. Love your blog, as always.
Why didn´t this post show up in bloglines on Monday? Arrrrg. Happy belated birthday to your beautiful boy. They have so beautiful eyes both of them.
Happy Birthday to your sweet son. His cat looks thrilled with his new quilt. I'm sorry you are having problems with your machine though. I know it sounds blimmin' obvious, but you did know that the tension will not change (no matter how much 'twiddling' of knobs you do)unless the foot lever is down (i.e. ready to sew). It was years before I found this out. When you say "tension issues" - could you show us with photos what the problem is.
Happy belated birthday to the 5 year old!!
Sorry to hear you had tension problems. Kandy's advice is so true and also I find I have to tighten my top tension to 7 or 8. Seems like a lot, but you do need it to be that tight to bring the bottom thread into the wadding.
The little quilt looks lovely. I'm in the process of repurposing some old blocks into a dolls' quilt for my little one.
