Rose Star Hexagons - A Finish!

Finished...., 

 Hand pieced over papers, 

the English paper Piecing way,

Longarm-quilted by me,

 bound in red spots..

and backed in a pretty wild Kaffee Fassett print..

Finished in about 2 years at a very leisurely pace LOL!

I must say, once the paper-piecing was done,

I missed it. I love a bit of handwork!

I parked at the side of the road

to get these photos.

My impatient passengers

didn't give me much time to take the photos....

... but if you look in the second and third photos

 you'll see why I stopped here....

I wanted a photo of my favourite tree that has lost it's leaves.

Autumn is on it's way!

Time to Sew

Time to rest,

means time to sew!!

So I have managed to get all the borders

hand stitched to my rose star hexagon quilt.

But sitting around resting

means you might get decorated

with flower petals :o)

I told Miss Kalico that I was making this quilt for her room

and I think she is pleased about that because

 she wanted to touch the quilt while eating an ice lolly

and so I said 'Don't touch' and she said: 'But it's mine!' ;o)

I have taken all the papers out

of this quilt and hope that as soon as possible,

I can iron this top

and get it on my Longarm.

Now I am on to the next thing!

Hand stitching the binding down on this baby quilt...

I feel the need to sew as much as possible at the moment

as I'm sure this 'enforced' resting won't last long!!!

Recovery Plans

Thanks for all the well wishes!

As of the night before, 

I am still on for my op tomorrow. 

My plan while I recover...

From tomorrow's plate removal surgery...

Is to get the borders on my 

rose star hexagon quilt.

One side is already sewn on,

another pinned.

In the past when I added borders to

English Paper Piecing,

I put the borders over papers too.

This time, I've just turned over

 a quarter inch seam allowance

and pinned it straight on,

to be sewn on as I go.

Wish me luck with that LOL

Then the quilting...,

but this quilt for Little Miss Kalico 

is sort of a 'top'.

I think I'd like white borders

(or possibly pieced borders??),

so I'll have to paper-piece them on,

but for now I need to get some binding

bought, made and sewn on

those other 2 (nearly) finished quilts of mine!

Note to Self:

Never pack away a project without

leaving yourself notes as to where you are with it...

 (I believe I have all the bits and pieces

needed to complete this project,

but I'm not 100% sure now!)

Little Miss-Kalico had a thumb operation today.

I took along loads of sewing to do.

I didn't manage a single stitch!

 

Note to self:

 Sewing is great, but family is better!

She's asleep now and I'm hoping

that she stays that way until morning.

A good night's rest will be just what the doctor ordered!

Grabbing Stitches Here & There!

Not only an hour a day...

but a stitch every minute I can :o)

 When baby-kalico naps...

Mummy gets the odd stitch in...

 

One more rose-star!

 Another half as well!

 And some bits to square up a corner....

 These 3 pieces make a square edge:

 Pinned on and ready to be stitched.

 

I enjoyed an official 'hour a day' for the

month of September with Bonnie.

 

Perhaps now that it's October,

I had better start thinking about

the 'C'-word!

(Crafting for Christmas may have to

put this project on the back-burner!)

I think it's fair to say...

...that I do manage an hour a day.

Some days, I may not,

 but then I'll make up for it

with 2 hours the next day!! ;o)

 

This is it!

No more on the length.

I just need to make a few more stars,

a few more halves and the 2 corners...

 

In the above picture you can see where I plan to stop.

I need to square it off on the right like the corner below:

 

And the opposite corner/the left 

will need to be squared off like this:

Rose-Star Surprises

Look what I found in the postbox yesterday!

Kandy sent me a rose-star that she had made

to thank me for getting her started.

sometimes I wish I'd never started,

but I hope to be finished soon.

how I do my half blocks.

I'll do a little tutorial soon.

I mean it's all very well making the stars,

but one really needs to be able

to finish them off :)

There are several ways to square up,

and I'll show you mine soon....

An Hour A Day...

... keeps the blues away!

 And if you manage a bit

here and there...

you suddenly find...

 that you're almost done...

 Well maybe not almost...

But I'm getting closer every day!

(The last photo is my favourite

because it shows my son's hand with

his wooden spoon that

he was nagging me to stick some 'hair' on

and all the lego that seems

to be mysteriously attracted to the floor!)

As I'm only planning

on making this quilt...

...single bed size...

...I think it's fair to say...

...that I am well over halfway!
