Levens Quilt Show 2014

Lovely day at Levens Quilt show.
I didn't take many photos,
but I did buy a few magazines
to read in hospital on Tuesday.
Yes, a new date for surgery
assuming they don't cancel again...

Harrogate 2012

What kind of quilter

goes to a quilt show without their camera

(or their money!!!) ????

Me! What a ... (fill in the blank LOL),

but yes, I was lucky enough to visit

The Great North Quilt Show

in Harrogate this weekend and only

when I got to the door did I realise I'd

left the essentials behind!

Never fear, I was with a friend

and a bag full of small change

and hidden notes!

 

Luckily, my phone takes ok pictures,

so these have all been snapped

on my little phone...

 

These photos are just a sample

of some things that took my eye:

 

I have been meaning to make

an alphabet quilt for years...

Maybe for the grandkids *sigh!*

The idea of appliqueing a quirky border

over a traditional quilt intriqued me

(non-traditional colours though!!):

Baby-Kalico was very well-behaved

considering the heat (! yes, it was warm!),

and the fact that Mummy kept stopping to look at

quilts and stalls!

And this was a novel way

of putting your hexagons together

(again the bigger picture was terribly blurry!)

I just hapened to be there

when this quilt display came tumbling down!

A few people laughed at me taking a photo -

a bit mean of me, I know, but life's a blog LOL

And I was delighted that finally

Mrs Welshquilter and I got to meet!

I was spoilt with this lovely embroidery!:

Mere Quilters (in Every Nook & Cranny)

I was very fortunate to be invited along by my dear friend Vicky C.

to the Mere Quilters Quilt Exhibition in Windemere today.

Set in a beautiful home overlooking glorious Lake Windemere

and bursting with charm and character and....

QUILTS!!!

I overheard a lady coming down the stairs saying:

'There are quilts in every nook and cranny!'

And there were! Quilts in the bedrooms,

the hallway, the shower room, the workroom...!

What an amazingly prolific group of quilters.

An absolute feast for the eyes and so many beautiful quilts to see and enjoy.

I certainly didn't manage to take everything in!

But I did spot a Lone Star which was lovely

 and reminded me of my Mother's long-term Lone Star

that we are hoping to finish together one day!!

(less than a 100 days to go now I believe!!)

and fun wallhangings...

And this one with sheep! Love it!

With all the beds and chairs etc. adorned with quilts

there was nowhere to sit and admire them, 

however, the dining room offered some excellent home-made refreshments!

I was delighted to have met a lovely lady called Janet

who made this super hexagon bag! (among many other wonderful things!)

And I also met a lady called Susan who made this Log Cabin

(also among many many other wonderful things!)

What a great day out, thank you Mere Quilters!

The Great Northern Crowds

Actually it's the Great Northern Quilt Show, but it was the first day and the crowds were overwhelming for the bump and me...

Trying to look at the vendor's wares was neigh on impossible, but later in the day it thinned out and I did buy a few bits. Not as much as I could have, but I had to be sensible and remember that firstly I have a lot of UFO's and secondly I am about to have a baby and sewing will be limited!

I was a very bad photographer and almost forgot to take photos.

However, I did take a few photos of this quilt made out of old ties.

I love quilts made out of old ties and would love to make one, one day!!!

Probably also in a Log Cabin design...

I met the lady who made this lovely quilt called 'Whirligig'.

It's a fun quilt:

I also bumped into Chris, my Longarmer and looked at her 3 quilts on show.

It was great catching up with Chris,

And hearing the story behind her prize-winning quilt.

I haven't got a photo of my purchases which included some cotton thread for piecing, a scrap bag, several half metre cuts of cream tone on tones and some pink and yellow gingham...

I was very restrained and now very tired :o)
